Things can and will change in the blink of an eye! I write often about change and the need to embrace it. I think it is so very important for those of us in addiction recovery and mental health treatment to address this issue with open minds and open hearts. We obviously need change, but the way we treat it, accept it and use it is quite another story!
One of the very first things we need to learn is the art of forgiveness. If we refuse to forgive, then we are setting ourselves up to fail! If we refuse to love, we are setting ourselves up for disaster! There is no recovery in bitterness, self-loathing or impatience, only sadness, depression and failure. Realizing how difficult these things are, especially in recovery is a first and necessary step in this process. Patience and strength are not only vital to recovery, they are extremely vital to success! Patience and strength are two of the top items that I ask God for every single day. My prayer list is long and full of requests for others as well as myself, but those two things are very important for everything else to work! Love should be there as well, so patience, strength and love should always be something that we strive for and pray for! God really will listen if you give Him the chance
Some of us change dramatically out of necessity, and I include myself in that category. I remember who I was before sobriety and it now comes as no surprise to me that I lost almost everything and everyone in my life, including my own children. That alone is enough to cause severe depression and anxiety, and it did. However, I needed to get well if I ever wanted those things to turn around. An abundance of therapy along with medication has completely changed my outlook on life to where I can live with myself and in my own skin. Not an easy task! On top of all that, those of us who have sincerely changed and take our recovery and mental health extremely seriously are constantly judged, perhaps deservedly so, but unfairly. We are judged by our past and others don’t realize that who we are now is someone who they don’t even know anymore! I realize that it takes time for people to forgive and get to know us all over again, but it’s still frustrating!
”Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.” (1 Corinthians 15:51-52 NIV)
I am the ultimate optimist, probably to a fault, but so far it has served me well. Unfortunately I am also a perfectionist, which can be really annoying to others, but it’s really bad when it is at the point of annoying myself! What I do realize is that I don’t have to achieve perfection to help others, which is of course a major goal of JQO Ministries, but just by the act of trying and succeeding in any way actually inspires others to take the chance to be happy! I know only too well that we feel unworthy of that happiness, unworthy of the love of others and unworthy of any help from God, but when we realize that we are worthy and use those things for positive influence, it is the most awesome feeling in the world! God is just waiting for us to ask for His help and He is completely ready and willing to shower us with His Holy Spirit!
So please remember these points! I want so much for y’all to be successful in recovery! Things really do change in the blink of an eye… make that change a positive one and stay away from the negativity! Get the therapy you need to feel whole again and if any of you need any help with these things; please don’t ever hesitate to contact me!!
I have forgiven all of those in my life who have hurt me, and I pray for their forgiveness and trust as well. I pray that I have earned it back and am justified in believing I deserve it! In the blink of an eye! Yes change can and will happen that quickly! Don’t fight it, accept it and use it to succeed and prosper! That is certainly what He wants you to do with His gracious gifts! In Jesus Name!
I’ll be closer to You than I’ve ever been
Time will fly, but until then
I’ll embrace every moment I’m given
There’s a reason I’m alive for a blink of an eye”

Love and blessings to all! +Joe
